Prajna Hebbar
Undergraduate Student (2020 -) National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal '22 |
Background: I am from Mangaluru, a small city in Southern India. Currently, I am a junior undergraduate student at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal pursuing my B.Tech. degree in Information Technology. I have been involved in 2 projects prior to joining the Sethi lab, one which aimed at adapting machine learning techniques to predict metastasis in prostate cancer patients, and another which dealt with refining and understanding protein structure prediction. I have always had a keen interest in biology, particularly cancer biology, and have always aimed at applying my computational skills towards solving biological problems. In the future, I see myself working in cancer research as a computational biologist and I hope to help in furthering our understanding of this terrible disease.
Research Interests/Projects: During my stay in the lab, I will be helping the Sethi lab in analyzing and gaining insights from the data generated in the lab, mainly pertaining to the epigenetic regulation of SOX9. Being from a computer science background, I aim to bring a new dimension to the research currently going on and I’m extremely excited to be part of a lab that conducts such important, translational research. Fun Facts and Interests: I’m trained in the Indian classical dance form Bharatanatyam and I also have played chess at the national level. Outside of work and study, I enjoy spending time babysitting, cycling and participating in quizzes (ideally not all at once :) ). Contact: [email protected] |
